Warmth for the Heart

Last week was one of those weeks that are easy to whine about.  Wasn’t feeling right.  Too much work to do.  Not sufficiently appreciated.  Too much bad news.  No more Indian summer.

Sigh~!

Then my husband came in from a round of chores with his hands behind his back.

I rolled my eyes and sighed.

Dan, grinning impishly, handed me a box of  Euphoria Chocolates.  (The box boldly proclaims: Your piece of paradise.)  Fifteen pieces of hand-made chocolates, all dark, all beautifully trimmed with nuts, or pink  or white dribbles, or a dark swirl.  They had names like “Raspberry Wine Truffle” and “Coconut Belgian Creme” and “Boysenberry Fruit Truffle” and “Almond in Solid Dark.”

Well… yum!

It’s common knowledge that a bit of chocolate can warm the heart and lift the spirits.  And now researchers tell us that dark chocolate (my favorite!) lowers blood pressure and bad cholesterol, and reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

When Dan gave me my unexpected gift, my first thought was to give my body a quick overhaul by gobbling up the whole box full.  But I quickly thought better of it, as I’m also trying to lose some weight.  I ate one piece.  Yesterday I ate another, and another just now.

I cannot tell you how much better I feel.  My headache’s gone!  My work will get done.  My husband loves me.  And the news isn’t all bad:  Hey, after more than two months the miners in Chile all came up out of that hole, safely and with smiles on their faces.  Oh, and the autumn leaves are gorgeous.

Sigh 🙂 ~!

Ah, that Dan…you two deserve each other! What great blessings you are to the rest of us. 🙂 Love you much.

  4. Thank you, Jean. What a dear relationship the three of us have! I’m handing a virtual chocolate to you.
